Department of Experimental Methods

The Department of Experimental Methods is the largest department at the Klokner Institute. Originally it was designed as an auxiliary workplace in support of the scientific research departments, and its task was to provide the equipment and products that they needed for their tests. In the course of time, the members of this department began to carry out scientific and educational work of their own, in bachelor, master and doctoral study programmes, and then they also began to offer consultations and services. Nowadays, the main part of the work of this department is in its role as Accredited Laboratory no. 1061. The Department of Experimental Methods develops measuring apparatuses, equipment and testing procedures, for its own purposes and for its clients.

Examples of typical scientific and commercial research carried out at the Department of Experimental Methods:

• Assessments of building materials on the basis of laboratory tests and in-situ tests
• Technical surveys and diagnoses of building structures of all kinds
• Static and dynamic loading tests
• Assessments of current status and proposals for rehabilitation measures
• Surveys of building moisture, with rehabilitation proposals, as required
• Long-term monitoring of physical and mechanical quantities on real structures
